Cards

It has been a very busy time since my last blog post. Here is a little catch up of some previous pieces.

February was a time for making three cards. Unfortunately I only remembered to take photos of two of the cards I made. First off is a Valentine's card for my DH :

For the background I used die-cuts and a Tim Holtz stencil. Gessoed everything and then sprayed with various Art Anthology sprays and water. On a piece of watercolour paper I sprayed Art Anthology Heart spray and stamped on top using stamps from Punky Romance Rubber stamp sheet by Chocolate Baroque. The card was finished with some Prima Art Ingredients Glass Beads and splashes of black ink before mounting it onto black cardstock.

The second card isn't really a card as you will see. It was for another gentleman in my life and I wanted to make something special as it was for his 90th birthday.

I was pleased at how this turned out. Originally the card started life as a picture frame that I had picked up from the local charity shop. I covered it with french book paper, gesso, white crackle paste and 13arts microspheres. I left it to dry naturally overnight as I had spread the crackle paste thick in some places. To decorate the card I used bits and sprays left from the Flying Unicorn May 2014 Kit of the Month. First I sprayed the frame with Lindy's Stamp Gang Bouganvillea Fuchsia, Cajun Carnillan Red, Cocoa Bean Copper from the kit, plus Screamin Banshee Black. The black spray has a beautiful blue shimmer to it.

Where the picture had been I covered that with a piece of paper from Prima's Cartographer, lightly gessoed and added white crackle paste through a Dylusions stencil. I used the same sprays for colouring

I then decorated the card with mainly pieces from the May 2014 Kit and other little bits in my stash. I had a lot of fun with this and the recipient was delighted with his card.

More to come.

Scrapbooking Layout

I had been wanting to scrapbook this photo of my daughter for ages. I had in my stash the May 2014 C'est Magnifique Kit, the Pion papers went perfectly with my photo. I also had the May Mixed Media kit and used the Pastel Blue and Pastel Yellow spray inks by 13arts. The white crackle paste was the only extra I used from my stash.

DLP weeks 5 - 8

I am enjoying the weekly prompts for the Documented Life Project. Here are some more of my pages

Week 5
Art Challenge: Under Paper
Journal Prompt: What Lies Beneath
For this I discovered the importance of underpaper and what fun can be had. For my background I adhered ink covered kitchen towel giving texture to the pages. I stamped circle and square stitch stamps from Prima onto newspaper I had used as underpaper and cut them out. Used Prima Ingvild Bolme Add Butterfly Wings stamp for my butterflies. Added Viva Decor Inka Gold  to the raised parts of my background texture to finish.

Week 6
February Theme: Layers You Will Love
Art Challenege: When Not To Stop
Journal Prompt: "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough!" (Ooh)

This was such a fun page to do. Firstly adhered pieces of torn up scrapbooking paper and french book paper. Covered in white gesso, except for some of the book text which I covered with clear gesso. Using 13arts sprays in various yellows and pinks sprayed my background. Added more spraying with stencils, again using 13arts sprays. Stamped with various stamps by Kasia Krzyminska using Smokey Grey and Onyx Black Versafine Ink. More stencilling with white paint and finally white pearl splashes of ink. The title says it all.

Week 7
Art Challenge: Cover Up Good Stuff
Journal Prompt: Goint Underground
Back in September I joined the Limor Webber MMCC. She did this technique using heavy bodied white paint. For this project I wanted to see how it would look using black gesso. I like how it turned out. I also varied it in that instead of using stencils I used stamps from Don't Forget to Fly by Finnabair. The background was one hot mess of acrylic inks, different types of paints, stencils, doodles, mark making, but a whole lot of fun.

Week 8
Art Challenge: Repeating Elements
Journal Prompt: It's Worth Repeating
A quick one this week. Sprayed with Art Anthology Peacock Feathers, Dylusions Vibrant Turquoise, 13arts Pastel Turquoise. Used 3 of the new Finnabair stencils repeating the colour of Peacock Feathers with Distress Ink and Distress Paint and ghosting with the Dylusions spray. Stamped with Peacock Feathers using a stamp from Tea on the Deck by Finnabair. From the Now is the Right Time set stamped the lady twice on tissue paper and a third on journal paper, colouring the heart with Festive Berries distress ink. Repeated the now is the right time with the stamp on the left side of the page. I had received my order of all things Finnabair, played with some on them on this project.

More to come.

Documented Life Project 2015

I discovered Art to the 5th through Dyan Reaveley's blog at the end of last year. Dyan had put a link on her blog as Art5 would be using the Dylusions art journal for their 2015 Documented Life Project. I've not been one for art journalling before, but I liked Art5 and their website so bought the large Dylusions journal to participate in the challenges. Oh and it is free.

DLP started on the 1st January and every Saturday thereafter a new challenge would be posted.  Each month would have a theme, for January it was The Blank Page and How to Face It. Each weekly DLP would have an Art Challenge and a Journal Prompt. For the first challenge this was Book Paper and the prompt was Be your own Goal Keeper.

Week 1
I covered the journal pages with different book papers and also the numbers 2, 0, 1 and 5. Used sprays by Lindys Stamp Gang, 13arts, Shimmerz and Art Anthology; neocolors and Salty Ocean distress ink

Week 2
Art Challenge: Gesso
Journal Prompt : "The beginning is always today" - Mary Shelley

For this I used three types of gessos. White gesso for my background, black gesso for stencilling and clear gesso mixed with Luminarte Primary Elements. Using the clear gesso and primary elements as paint I coloured a piece of scrap paper, stamped on it several dandelion clocks and cut them out. The journal prompt became my title.

Week 3
Art Challenge: The Colour Wheel
Journal Prompt: "I found I could say things with colour and shapes I couldn't say
any other way..." - Georgia O'Keeffe
The left side of the page is black and white acrylic paint I smooshed together with my fingers. For the right side I went with the colours of the rainbow. First painting the background with a bright, sunny yellow acrylic paint and used different stencil shapes with Lumiere Burnt Orange, Violet and Indigo, Silks Pretty Peridot, Art Anthology Sorbet Viridian and Lindys Stamp Gang Magicals Rhododdendron Red Rose for the other colours. For my title I used Spectrum Noir Bright and Beautiful watercolour set, the letters were cut out using my Big Shot.

Week 4
Art Challenge: Writing
Journal Prompt: Words with Friends

I wrote across the double page spread, sprayed with Dylusions ink, brayered on some gesso (which takes up the colour of the Dylusions underneath) and stamped on some blank book pages with Kaisercraft stamps.

More to come.

Card

Christmas time I usually make cards for friends and family. Last Christmas was a little different, I made only cards from my Darling Man and my two girls. The girls' cards didn't get finished until Christmas Day itself and I didn't take photos of their cards, only Darling Man's card.

For all 3 cards I used The Flying Unicorn KOM for November. This kit contained the Cozy Evening paper collection by 13 arts, one of my favourite companies, along with embellishments and stencils. The only thing I used in addition was Glass Glitter by Finnabair for Prima. Got to have a bit of sparkle at christmas time.

More catching up to come.

A Long Absence

As you will have seen it has been very quiet here. A while back my life was turned completely upside down in that I spent my time caring for my terminally ill father until he sadly passed away.  There has been a lot to sort out since and it left very little time for creating and I certainly didn't feel like blogging.

Time is a healer and so is creating. Things are getting back on track in my creative world, more of which to come later in other posts.

This was the first thing I made whilst awol from this blog. It is a travel journal.

Front
Back

I always like to take a journal with me when I go away and this one is made from just a cheap 6 x 4 photo album. The pocket inserts are perfect for journaling cards. The inspiration for this came from Kasia Kryzminska's Tag Extravaganza on Live with Prima
I used the same Prima colour bloom sprays, stencil and 3D gel. Firstly I stamped all over some white tissue paper with stamps by Ali Edwards and Kasia herself, and adhered it to the photo album with gel medium.

Next I used the Bubbles stencil and 3D gel in certain areas so that the words and some of the pattern would not be covered up with the gesso and colour bloom sprays. When dry the piece was completely gessoed and the raised gel areas cleaned with baby wipes for the stamping to still show through.
Then came the sprays and again cleaning up with baby wipes. Project finished.

Will be back with more posts.
